Summer in BC
When I started this blog, I wanted something with a West Coast feel. I think this template works--I love lighthouses.
I found this huge Gunnera plant in Stanley Park. These plants have fascinated me ever since we moved here from the Prairies. I had never heard of them before. From a distance it looks like Rhubarb. Up close, there isn't anything about it that hints at being fit for consumption by any living thing. The stems are thick round green stalks covered with bristles and thorns. A friend from Vancouver Island tells me there is a hedge of them at Coombs.
We are enjoying glorious sunshine here. It's not too hot. We couldn't ask for better weather. It is so beautiful, we forget the long rainy seasons behind us and coming up in the fall. Summer came late this year. I hope it stays late, too.

That plant is incredible!! And it looks for all the world like a giant Rhubarb. I can't even imagine a hedge of those huge plants. That would give a totally new meaning to "privacy" fence, now wouldn't it? I'll send you our summer too so you can have enough. LOL It has been hotter than blue-blazes in our neck of the woods and I'm ready for some fall weather. :0)
Wow--that is one large plant! It's a good thing a person is standing there for perspective. Too bad it's not a rhubarb--it could make a lot of pies (and rhubarb is my favorite kind of pie!)
