I just have to tell you about my mom. First- as you read this, keep in mind that she's 71.
I'm anxiously awaiting the outcome of her audition with the Regina Symphony Chorus . She sang with them in last spring's performance of Beethoven's 9th. She had to stretch her range and sing in German for the first time, but she did it. Last night, she auditioned for a place in the chorus for this fall season. Mom has been singing since her early teen years and music has always been a part of our lives. She frequently gives me little nudges & encourages me to keep singing. "Don't let those pipes get rusty," she says.
When she was 66, she decided to play the Marimba - a lifelong dream of hers. In so doing, she found the rest of the percussion section and fell in love with drums. There she was, leaning on crutches while waiting for hip surgery, playing the snare drum with high school kids in summer school. She loved drumming and they loved their newfound "gramma friend".
Mom is adjusting to life without Dad, her best friend and soul mate. I'm so glad to see her rebuilding her life and getting back into music. It took guts and determination to pull out of loneliness and depression. She sets an example to never use age or physical limitations or any other circumstances as an excuse for not using the gifts and talents God has entrusted to us.
Wednesday - Epilogue:
I just got off the phone with Mom. WooHoo!!!! She did it. Before she went in she was told it would probably take several days for them to decide. At the end of the audition, the Director shook her hand and said "Welcome to the Philharmonic Chorus" and proceeded to discuss the rehearsal schedule. I'm so excited for her, I'm in tears.

Debby your mother is a wonder!! What an inspiration she is. CONGRATULATIONS to her for this wonderful achievement. I'm going to pass her advice along to my DDL who sings beautifully. There was talk recently about her getting too old to sing, she is just now 25! I don't know much about it but would say she still has a lot of song in those pipes--as does your dear mother!! :0)
How exciting! That's awesome that your mom is out and about doing such neat stuff, and enjoying the opportunities!!
What a wonderful story Deb. Your mom sets a fine example for all of us. It probably took plenty of confidence and lots of courage too to go for that audition. I'm so happy for both of you.
Hugs!!
